Carla McCall, CPA, CGMA, Managing Partner of PrimeGlobal member firm AAFCPAs has been named one of 2022’s Most Powerful Women in the Accounting Profession by the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and CPA Practice Advisor magazine. This is the second time Carla has received such a recognition, having been first named one of the most powerful women in the profession in 2020.

The annual award recognizes 25 female leaders helping to define and advance the accounting profession. In addition to helping drive innovation and growth at their own organizations, recipients are also selected based on how effectively they represent the accounting profession through civic and community outreach.

The awards were announced at the AICPA ENGAGE conference at the Aria Hotel and Resort in Las Vegas, on June 8, 2022.

At AAFCPAs, we have made strides in promoting women’s accomplishments and encouraging other companies to make women’s leadership a strategic priority. But, as a profession, we have work to do in calling out unconscious bias and creating alternative paths to partner to increase women in ownership positions. I know the profession is putting in the work to get us there. Carla McCall, Managing Partner, AAFCPAs

Representation of women in the accounting profession is improving with 62% of all accountant or auditor roles now held by women, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Women are also increasingly occupying leadership roles — 27% of partners and principles are now women. Though there is still a lot of progress to be made.

When asked about what words of inspiration she has for other women in the accounting profession, Carla said: “This is an amazing profession with so much choice in the ability to be entrepreneurial. When you find the right people that appreciate your skills, and support you, it feels magical.”

“I know we are making progress, and we will continue to rise as long as we support each other on this journey,” she added.
