Our five-part DEI Speaker series was launched to help our members develop a roadmap to an impactful DEI initiative. Increased diversity, equity, and inclusion build a stronger culture, higher employee satisfaction, and higher financial returns. A Roadmap to a Diverse, Equitable & Inclusive Firm – In our first session, PrimeGlobal was joined by Natalie Runyon from Thomas Reuters to facilitate a panel discussion on the importance of DEI. Panelists included: Tricia Duncan from Jones & Roth, P.C., Carla MCall from AAFCPAs, and Jie Zhu from Petrinovich Pugh & Company, LLP. Diversity in the Workplace – In this second session, we dig deeper into how organizations are doing the work to advance DEI initiatives. Understanding the Language of DEI- In the third session, Jina Etienne continues to create the DEI Roadmap by developing strategies and actionable initiatives. By discussing the importance of getting comfortable talking with people from diverse backgrounds and understanding appropriate language. The session discusses the terminology associated with the practice of diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as the implications, nuances, and risks associated with different dialogues. This session also explores strategies for engaging in safe, constructive dialogue that builds trust and strengthens workplace relationships. Understanding Unconscious Bias- During the fourth session, Trisha Daho, founder of Empowered Leadership Cultivation, discusses the different types of bias that we can encounter. Everyone holds unconscious beliefs about various social and identity groups, and these biases stem from our tendency to organize social worlds by categorizing. Exploring DEI: Leading with Empathy - To conclude our speaker’s series on diversity, we will begin to understand the importance of empathy in your own unique DEI journey. Lia James discusses the meaning of empathy and its importance within the realm of DEI. In this mini-workshop, participants reflected on empathy in their own lives and how to implement DEI outside of the workplace.
